Matt Sawyer Music: Matt Sawyer was born in 1982 to very supportive parents Barney and Paula Sawyer, in Paris, TX, and started playing the saxophone at age 11. He has one sister, Kendall, and is married to Yukari, and has two cats, Misia and Oscar. He attended the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, performing for four years (2003-2007) in the world-renowned One O'Clock Lab Band. Matt has performed with Jimmy Heath, Pete Christlieb, Benny Golson, Phil Woods, Lou Marini, His Majesty The King of Thailand, Nick Payton, Rufus Reid, Wayne Bergeron, Ed Soph, Lynn Seaton, Fred Hamilton, Jim Riggs, Stefan Karrlson, Mike Steinel, John Murphy, Michael League and Snarky Puppy, Nelo, Ami Hirai, Cas Haley, and many others. He has toured and performed in Canada, the Pacific Northwest, New York, Chicago, Japan, Thailand, Poland, and the Netherlands, and also performed clinics in the US, Canada and Thailand. His group, The Matt Sawyer Orchestra, was selected to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2006, and his arrangement specifically for this group of John Coltrane's Dear Lord was Downbeat Winner of Best Arrangement in 2006.
